They Had No Names
THE MARKET PLACE
The bomb
Splayed
flesh and bones
Like
cobblestones along the dust road
Blood
mixing with the juices of over-ripened tomatoes
Staining
the concrete under their feet
No one
would cry for them
They had
no names
THE GIRL
Eyes hazy
with what could have been
Innocence
floated away in the sea of his cold pupils
Her
silent screams
Time
draws wrinkles in her skin
She
returns to dust
Tears
would not flow for her
She had
no name
SOLDIER
BOY
Swollen footprints
in the sand
Split
skulls with questioning glances
Crumbling
walls
Broken
soul
Spilled
blood howling in his ears
Stomach
caved in like a bottomless black hole
Sucking
up the remnants of a shattered existence
Dreams
dangling just out of reach
Buried in a mass grave
Atop a
bed of corpses
Breath
departs his lungs
Darkness
envelopes his cold shell
He had no
name
No one
would sing the blues for him
Except
for that chicken in his pocket
It would
cackle until dawn
